 Poetry at the CFL

T.S. Eliot wrote: “April is the cruelest month, breeding/Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing/Memory and desire, stirring/Dull roots with spring rain.” Respectfully, Mr. Eliot, I disagree. As the temperatures rise, there is much to look forward to and celebrate in April, including National Poetry Month.

Since 1996, schools and libraries across the United States have observed National Poetry Month, established by the Academy of American Poets. Throughout April we highlight the art of poetry, celebrating the literary achievements of past poets as well as new works by contemporary poets. We invite you to join the celebration by checking out our collections of poetry.

 Healthy Reads

With several storms and viruses under our belt this season, it is safe to say winter has been less kind than in past years. While the odds seem stacked against us, the healthiest way to keep our heads above the growing snowbanks is to take a proactive approach towards keeping ourselves healthy. So this week, we’re featuring “healthy reads” in a display by our staff member Beverly Ewart.  We have a variety of books that provide useful information on mental and physical health. From dietary recipes to advice on how to de-stress, our healthy reads will help you renew your mind and body.

For a comprehensive look at healthy living, check out You: The Owner’s Manual: An Insider’s Guide to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger by Michael F. Roizen, M.D. and Mehmet C. Oz, M.D.  In this book, two doctors take us on a tour of the human body, debunking myths and answering common questions about how the body functions and ages. This book includes a plan for physical well-being and low calorie recipes.
