 Snowbound

Is it spring yet? With storms, cancellations, and hazardous conditions, this season has been interesting to say the least. Unfortunately for those who tire of this weather, our North Country winter is far from over. In the upcoming months, a good way to avoid cabin fever is to curl up with a good book.

At the Canton Free Library, we’re hoping to lift your spirits with our new Snowbound Winter Reading Club. Designed by CFL’s director Emily Owen and Technical Processing Specialist Beverly Ewart, this program lets you win prizes for doing what you love—reading!

To enter, just pick up a Snowbound Winter Reading Club packet at the library. You’ll get tear-off slips for each book you read. Whenever you read a book between January 5th and March 15th, fill out a slip and drop it in the jar at the Front Desk.

Recently fifty-two new eBooks and seventeen new audiobooks have been added to the Overdrive collection. All you need is your library card to check out great titles in the comfort of your own home, including the ones below.

If you enjoy epic historical fiction, check out Stella Bain by Anita Shreve. In this novel, a surgeon and his wife take in a shell-shocked nurse’s aide during World War I. The aide, Stella Bain, suffers from amnesia and struggles to remember her past before her life on the French battlefield. Discover her mysteries in the latest novel from bestselling author Anita Shreve.

For those with a taste for suspense, we have White Fire by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Set in a Colorodo ski resort, this thriller features a quirky FBI agent and his protégée Corrie Swanson. Join this duo as they investigate the connection between the arson of multi-million dollar homes, the death of several miners over a century ago, and a missing Sherlock Holmes story.
