CFL Weekly

This week we celebrate the life and vision of human rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr. Over 50 years after he gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, his words remain powerful, urging us to fight for a world filled with love and equality for our children. In keeping with his dream, the Canton Free Library is highlighting books about the civil rights movement.

Doreen Rappaport’s Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an excellent biography to introduce our young patrons to the history of this great American leader. The author combines Martin Luther King, Jr.’s own words with a simple narrative of his life. This picture book biography is illustrated with watercolor and collage artwork by acclaimed artist Bryan Collier.

 Snowbound

Is it spring yet? With storms, cancellations, and hazardous conditions, this season has been interesting to say the least. Unfortunately for those who tire of this weather, our North Country winter is far from over. In the upcoming months, a good way to avoid cabin fever is to curl up with a good book.

At the Canton Free Library, we’re hoping to lift your spirits with our new Snowbound Winter Reading Club. Designed by CFL’s director Emily Owen and Technical Processing Specialist Beverly Ewart, this program lets you win prizes for doing what you love—reading!

To enter, just pick up a Snowbound Winter Reading Club packet at the library. You’ll get tear-off slips for each book you read. Whenever you read a book between January 5th and March 15th, fill out a slip and drop it in the jar at the Front Desk.
