Welcome aboard A Universe of Stories, young astronauts; today’s the day!  Enjoy stories that are out of this world as we explore the universe together.

This Thursday our big event involves stories, a water fight, hula hoops, bubbles, games, and more! Join us for Canton Free Library’s annual Books at the Beach at Taylor Park (on Miner Street in Canton), 2pm.  We invite kids and a caregiver to join us at Taylor Park for stories, games and fun! Wear beach clothes for the water games and plan to stay afterwards to swim and play with library friends! No registration is necessary. If it’s raining, the program will not be held. Call Valerie at the library at 386-3712 ext 4 for more information.

Next week our big event is Didgeridoo Down Under on Thursday, July 18 at 2pm at First Presbyterian in Canton.  More on that later…

For now, check out Lucy and the Rocket Dog by Will Buckingham, in which budding scientist Lucy builds a rocket ship and accidentally sends her beloved dog, Laika, into space..

In July, the Junior Writers schedule will resume as normal throughout the summer,  with programs on the 2nd and last Thursday of the month from 3:30-4:50 pm.

Adult Programs:

Kids aren’t the only ones who get to have fun at the library this summer! Join us the week of July 29-August 2, 2019 for Program Palooza! This is our version of summer camp for adults! With programs themed in art and performance, to crafts, games and snacks, this is the adult week of evening fun!

Program Palooza Schedule:

Monday, July 29, 6pm From the Page to the Stage with award-winning author and storyteller Regi Carpenter. July 29, 2019 | 6:00pm | Canton Free Library | Paige Room. This event is free of charge. A light dinner will be provided. Want to create more vivid characters, strong settings, and satisfying emotional arcs in your writing? This workshop focuses on the art and craft of writing for beginners and more experienced writers. Regi will also share tips on how to read your work in front of an audience most effectively. All that and dinner too! Please register on our website.

Tuesday, July 30, 2019, 5:30pm join us for a game of Gaslands! Gaslands is a tabletop game of post-apocalyptic vehicular mayhem. With fast and cinematic rules, it is designed to be played with toy cars, allowing players to ram, skid and race their way through the wreckage of a burnt-out Earth. Do you love Mad Max? Enjoy a game with a straight-forward ruleset without a lot of pieces to manage? Want a game you can jump into as a new player from one session to the next? Give Gaslands a try! If you can’t make it to this first Gaslands session don’t worry! We’ll be offering chances to try the game throughout the summer. If you have a favorite toy car (Matchbox, Hot Wheels size) that you want to use, feel free to bring it along! You just might leave your first Gaslands session with all sorts of ideas about how to trick out your vehicle in preparation for more Mad Max style mayhem in the future.

On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, 5:00pm Make Your Own Beeswax Wrap for covering bowls, pie plates or dishes. The cloth will be reusable and hand washable with soap and cold water. Mary Ann Owen will teach a simple technique using a household iron. Bring your own thin, tightly woven, cotton cloth (like part of an old sheet) for the project. We will have some cloth to share. Consider what containers you would want to cover and bring fabric pieces large enough to easily drape around them. We will make two -three wraps per person.

It’s time for more fun and games on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 5:00pm as we once again welcome everyone to engage in post-apocalyptic vehicular mayhem, eat yummy snacks, and join Chuck & Jen Henry for another session of Gaslands!

Friday, August 2, 2019, 10:00am-2:00pm check out the Friends of the Library Book Sale on the first floor of the library. We’ve received a huge amount of great donations lately and there are a lot of great titles to bring home with you.
