Currently, news is that certain celebrities have used their wealth and influence to leverage MORE power and privilege for their families by bribing their way into elite universities and buying up scholarships - for their kids - which were intended for people with more ability (or at least as much), but less means.
Becoming is the autobiography of our former First Lady, whose parents had too much class for that kind of UNbecoming behavior, even if they'd HAD the means.
What Michelle Obama’s parents did have was wisdom and integrity, and it’s a powerful legacy that they passed on to their daughter. I am enjoying her memoir immensely, learning lots, and finding it far more edifying than the news right now. Our former First Lady is a talented word-smith!
- Becoming by Michelle Obama. An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States. In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America, she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations, and whose story inspires us to do the same.
