Diane Sayer was the lucky winner of our raffle, which was a basket full of lovely pieces for the dinner table, as well as food and beverage items anyone would be proud to serve. Congratulations, Diane!

Speaking of food and beverage items anyone would be proud to serve; we ALL win with the cookbook collection in the Piskor Room at CFL!  The latest addition to our collection is Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get it!  Simple, Scrumptious Recipes for Crazy Busy Lives.

Speaking of food and beverage items AND CRAFT SALES…  Save Saturday, December 2, 2017, 10am to 2pm, for your annual visit to the Friends of the Canton Free Library Book, Bake and Craft Sale!  

THANKSGIVING:  Check out some materials to tide you over while we are closed for Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 22, at 5pm; Thursday, November 23; Friday, November 24.  We will reopen at our regular time on Saturday, November 25.

Children’s Programs:

Baby Storytime happens on Tuesdays from 10-10:45am. Children ages 0-18 months and their caregivers are invited to experience books, and participate in bounce rhymes, songs, finger plays, and social/play time. There is no registration necessary for this program.

Toddler Story Time (18-35 months) meets Monday mornings 10:30am-11am and runs in 4-week sessions, but registration is required, so please be sure to contact Valerie White at 315 386-3712 ext. 4.  Next session starts on Monday, November 27, 2017, and is full, but there is a waiting list. There will be more sessions announced to begin in January.

Preschool Storytime meets Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11:15am. This popular program features books, flannel board stories, songs, finger plays, movement, and crafts. Preschool Storytime is designed for 3-5 year olds and their caregivers. No registration is needed.

Junior Writers Group will be on break until January, 2018.  This group is for ages 8-12, and meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 3:30-4:50. No registration is needed. Children brainstorm on a given theme, write and perhaps illustrate a short story, and share it with the group if they wish.

The Annual Children’s Book Sale is Saturday, November 18, 10am - 2pm.  Children may bring their gently used books to trade for books in the sale. Donations of children’s books will be accepted in the Children’s Room until November 16.  Please call Valerie at 315 386-3712 ext. 4 for more information.

Teen Programs: Join Krista and the gang Fridays for an after school geek gathering! Let’s Play, our collaborative teen video game program, meets from 3pm - 5pm, followed by Anime Club from 5pm - 7pm. Let Krista know if you are interested in forming a carpool to attend teen programs at kbriggs@ncls.org.

Clash of the Readers: It’s time to start reading, Teens! The CotR booklist is up and ready to go! This year, our teen reading trivia challenge will be based on Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, The Accident Season by Moïra Fowley-Doyle, March: Book One by John Lewis, and an award-winner to be voted on by you! Be sure to check back for ballot information! In the meantime, grab a blanket, and cuddle up with one of these four awesome books in preparation to compete in the Clash of the Readers next March!

Hours: The Canton Free Library is open Monday 9:30am - 8pm, Tuesday 9:30am - 5pm, Wednesday 9:30am - 8pm, Thursday 9:30am -5pm, Friday 9:30am -5pm, and Saturdays from 10am -3pm. Please note that the book drop remains open 24/7 for returns. The Rensselaer Falls Branch Library is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3pm -6pm. Morley Branch Library is open Tuesday and Thursday 1pm -6pm.
