PRESCHOOL CLASS on Wednesday, February 22, begins at 10:30 and is for three to five year olds and a caregiver.  No enrollment is required, and the class is open to the public.   This week’s theme is Oh My! Oh My! Oh Dinosaurs! and will feature the book by that name by Sandra Boynton, as well as other great dinosaur books, songs, fingerplays and a craft.  Join us for a fun time!

TWEEN TIME is set for Tuesday, February 21, beginning at 3 pm.  It’s a program for students in grades 3 – 6, and is always book-centered with fun and creative activities relating to a particular theme.  Call Valerie for more details at 386-3712, x 4.

NEW!!!  NOOK COLOR E-READERS AVAILABLE FOR IN-HOUSE USE
Canton Free Library received a grant late last year from the Northern New York Library Network in Potsdam to fund the purchase of three Nook Color e-readers, and the devices are now ready for in-house use only.  The primary purpose of the project is to offer patrons, especially those with low incomes and non-computer users, the opportunity to access and explore this exploding 21st century technology while in the library.  Each Nook holds a variety of book titles chosen by Assistant Director Carole Berard and loaded by IT Specialist Jon Stahl.  A small collection of game apps is also available on each Nook and will be expanded as funds allow.  Patrons in good standing who are 18 years old and up may present a unique photo ID that will be held at the Patron Services desk until the device is returned there and checked for condition.  Instructions on how to use the device are available on the opening screen.  The Nooks are not available for interlibrary loan, nor may they be checked out for home use at this time though future plans do include borrowing them for home use.  Ask at the desk in order to explore this burgeoning new way to read old favorites and new bestsellers.
